Synopsis

This story comes highly recommended from several sources. And yes, your first impression that this will be a "chick lit" is probably true in that it will have a female protagonist, male leads, and an emotionally driven plot. Essentially, this will follow more along the route of brain over brawn. It won't be for everyone, but those that like this sort of genre will be very pleased indeed. It's gender bender, hacker, modern, romance, drama, some action and elements of mystery. So buckle up. We're in for a ride.

I was really excited for this novel. I saw the summary, comments, reviews, and ranking, so I was hoping for a good novel with detailed characters, plot, development, and world building in general. However, I am really disappointed and surprised at how high the ranking still is. Even though I haven't read a lot of the novel, I can already guess where this is going. Another generic plotline that has been repeated thousands of time, romance that pulls together out of nowhere, plot holes absolutely everywhere. The characters have no depth, and the biggest thing I understand about them is that everyone is beautiful. The chapters are too short to have anything happening at all, and there are plenty of hidden gems better than this. I am not stopping anyone from reading this, and I respect your opinion if you do, but there are plenty of other well written books that have gone by unnoticed. This chapters go at the same rate of hidden marriage chapters (one important event happening every 10-20 chapters). I may be the only one who has the opinion, but as a veteran reader, I can tell what a good book is.

I was so excited when Qidian started translating this novel - I've been hooked ever since I read the first two chapters a while back, and I think that there are two key factors that make this novel stand above the rest. But I'm sad to say that as of chapter 56, I have dropped this novel because there are too many flaws with the writing. So, let's get into it: Strengths - The protagonist. Fu Jiu is super likeable and unique, she can be described as a simultaneous lady and man-killer. Her flirtatiousness isn't irritating, but instead it gives her a special charm that draws you in. To be more exact, she is the perfect representation of a "seme" in a homosexual relationship, although readers know that she's only pretending to be a man. Her personality is pretty rare for a female lead, and I might've just finished the whole novel if they only focused on her more! In my opinion, and I think for many readers, her character has been the best part of this novel so far. - Hacking and professional gaming. To me, these are both very interesting topics, and I particularly enjoyed reading about a female being successful in this area. Some of you may notice that these occupations are very different, and yes, it is a bit of a stretch that Fu Jiu is good at both. But if you read this novel, you'll realise that in terms of exaggeration, this is just the tip the iceberg! Weaknesses - I was debating dropping this novel for a while, but ultimately I said yes because Fu Jiu wasn't getting enough screen time (if that applies to a webnovel). And why was that? It's a combination of a poor characterisation and serious exaggeration. Like, I know all novels exaggerate to a certain extent, but this one takes it to a whole new level. If the male lead turns up at a school, he will be treated as the next messiah (by adults and students alike). If he enters a game server, literally everyone will stop what they're doing to idolise him. And then the server will crash because millions are trying to log on for whatever reason. The author tries to establish how much of an untouchable elite this guy is at every opportunity. His sidekicks (yes, sidekicks - 80% of characters only exist to idolise the ML) never fail to express surprise when he does normal-people things. - The male lead is a mega-boss CEO and #1 professional gamer at the same time. How does that work? - Qin Mo is also petty, self-absorbed and uncaring. The author repeatedly uses descriptors like 'cool', 'manly', and 'handsome', but the character's actions speak otherwise. I won't go into the details, but he clearly believes that he is entitled to special treatment, and treats certain people like crap. - Did I mention the male lead must smoke in every scene (even though there are people in the room with him)? I guess the author thinks that smoking is cool, when in fact it's the total opposite. Anyways, thanks for listening to my rant, and sorry if it was too long XD Kudos to the translators, 5 stars for translation quality and update stability :)

I started reading this novel when I saw that it is picked up by Webnovel. This novel is very popular within the Chinese community and I thought since that it looks rather interesting I would give it a try. But who knew that after that โgiving a tryโ, it gave me sleepless night from just continuously reading the novel. My review will contain quite a lot of spoiler since I am at about chapter 1435. So please read it at your own risk. Firstly, as I have said before, I have and am reading the raws. I reread the translations and it is really good. Even though I am able to understand Chinese but it is not very fantastic, by reading the translations I am able to understand some parts better. For eg Spade Z(้ปๆกZ) haha I didnโt realise it is named as spade since I have always thought ้ปๆก is a name. Therefore, the translations are really good in my opinion and I thank the translator for that. For the plot, I would say the entire novel feels like it is a roller coaster. There is story progression. Basically, as for currently, the novel is mainly dissected into before Qin Mo knew that Fu Jiu(Bao Jiu) is a girl, after Qin Mo found out that she is a girl, Qin Mo suspicion on her being Hacker Z, after he confirmed his findings on her being Hacker Z. Well, the story isnโt exactly dissected into just these 4 parts but I didnโt want to spoil too much so I just state the much obvious to the current readers. Before Qin Mo knew that she was a girl, haha it is a very hilarious read. Fu Jiu had to hide her secret within close proximity. By reading the chapters, I feel tense for her. Qin Moโs actions were really cute though!! He truly cared for her and the teasing by Fu Jiu is very funny as well. The story develops and Qin Mo found himself to be attracted to her. Well I will explain the plot until here. But the story is really progressive into their character development. I would say that most of the characters have very strong personality which is very admirable especially the main charactersโ close circle. Also as the story goes, the description of the games becomes more detailed. Ahh I havenโt played games for many months. After reading them, I really feel like playing the game again. Well since during their competitions, the game ่ฑ้(hero) is described like a moba game. It really reminded me of LoL. While reading these chapters, you or well for me I find it exciting just imagining it. The main key point to the story that entice me is actually the team spirit when they play the game which is heavily emphasised in the novel. As for the romance, the novel is dissected into different parts as well. Honestly, I was confused at one point of the story. But this confusion doesnโt affect me in continuing me to read the novel. The love from Qin Mo is very constant throughout the story. (Except for one part of the story at chapter 1200+ but donโt worry it is just that when they faced a problem) Qin Mo loves the male lead no matter the problem he faced. What made me pity him at the first part of the story is the fact that the female lead has too many secrets. I felt sad for him. The female leadโs romance for the male lead is rather slow or actually even I am not sure whether I judged it correctly. Regardless, she cared and respected him from the start to then showing her utmost care, love and sacrifice. Their romance may consist of many misunderstandings but as it goes they will slowly resolve it. Other than the main charactersโ romance, the side charactersโ romance were also included. Such as Yun Hu and Li Feng, Jiang Zuo and Yao Yao. Similar to the main charactersโ romance there were many misunderstandings and sweet moments, it is just not as complicated as the main characters. Well, I am not good at writing reviews so please excuse my horrible way of phrasing my thoughts. However, I would just like to state that this novel is really good and very exciting. I would recommend this novel to this novel to someone who is looking for a very smart couple with a rather unique romance plot.
